GULFTAINER COMPLETES ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT
Sharjah-based Gulftainer, believed to be the world’s largest privately-owned independent port operator, has completed the Saja’a Access Road. The newly constructed highway, built in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), connects the Saja’a Industrial Investment Park (SIIP), Gulftainer’s first-ever leasehold initiative, via the Emirates Road (E611), to the three major seaports in Sharjah, Port Khalid, Hamriyah Port and Khorfakkan Port. The road also connects up with Sharjah’s International Airport and the UAE’s wider road network.
The 750,000m2 SIIP is set to become a fully bonded logistics facility with goods being imported under bond and remaining exempt from duty and VAT until released to the local market. Speaking at a special reception to mark the road’s completion, Peter Richards, Group chief executive of Gulftainer, said: “SIIP will play a crucial role not only in Gulftainer’s growth but also in Sharjah’s economic development. Its strategic location and unparalleled capabilities are poised to enhance the global competitiveness of the emirate. This project aligns with our commitment to contributing to Sharjah’s thriving economy through boosting the local shipping and logistics industry.”
SIIP is designed to flexibly accommodate warehouse spaces of varying sizes, and includes modern light industrial units, offices, employee housing and other amenities.
