Let Me Tell You About Ugandan Coffee 🇺🇬

I am Juliet Nantongo, founder of Lunexa Coffee and The Coffee Museum Café in Kampala, Uganda. Discover why Ugandan coffee is the world's best - from Mount Elgon Arabica to Nile Robusta, the birthplace of Robusta in Kibale Forest.

Today I want to tell you about the coffee of my country Uganda, which is one of the finest coffees in the world.

Uganda is the only country in the world where both Arabica and Robusta grow in the best quality.

Why is Mount Elgon Arabica So Special?

Mount Elgon is a very high mountain, more than 4000 meters high. Its soil is made from volcanic ash which is very fertile.

Here, Arabica grows at an altitude of 1500 to 2200 meters. Because of the high altitude, its taste is very soft and sweet. It has fruity and chocolate notes. For those who love light and aromatic coffee, Elgon Arabica is the best. At Lunexa Coffee, we use this same Arabica.

Why is Robusta from the Nile Region So Strong?

Uganda is considered the birthplace and the surrounding region of Robusta coffee.

Today I want to share a fact that you may not have known before. Wild Robusta was first found in the Kibale forest of Uganda. This is a fact.

The Nile Connection is that Uganda is the country where the River Nile begins.

In terms of cultivation, the fertile areas near the Nile basin and Lake Victoria provide the perfect environment for Robusta cultivation.

Robusta from here is famous for its strength and deep aroma. It has more caffeine and a bold taste. It is the best for espresso because it creates a rich crema.
