GenZ Is Not Broke. They Just Do Not Buy Like You Think

If you are still trying to sell to GenZ with a 10 percent off popup and a long About Us page, you already lost.
GenZ has money. They just spend it very differently.
We talked to 200+ GenZ buyers from 18 to 26 and tracked how they actually shop in 2026. Here is the real playbook.
1. They Do Not Google. They TikTok Search
A GenZ girl does not search best skincare for oily skin on Google. She types it on TikTok.
If your product does not have at least 5 real videos from real people using it, you do not exist for them.
How to win. Send your product to 10 micro creators under 10k followers. Do not give them a script. Just say use it for 3 days and show honest review. One brand got 400 orders from one video with 800 views because the girl said my acne actually got better, not perfect but better.
2. They Pay For Vibe, Not Just Product
GenZ will pay 40 dollars for a 10 dollar water bottle if the brand feels like them.
What is vibe. Your packaging, your Instagram grid, your reply tone, your values. If your brand looks like a dropshipper with 5 different fonts, they will skip.
Fix. Pick one aesthetic. Clean minimal or Y2K bold or earthy sustainable. Stick to it everywhere. And your brand story should be in one line. Not we are a mission driven company. Say we make hoodies from plastic bottles, that is it.
3. They Will Cancel You For Fake Sustainability
GenZ cares about planet but they have a radar for fake.
If you write eco friendly and you ship in three layers of plastic, they will stitch your video.
Be honest. If you are not 100 percent sustainable, say it. We are 60 percent recycled right now, working to 100 percent by next year. That honesty sells more than fake green badges.
4. BNPL Is Not Optional. It Is Default
GenZ rarely uses credit cards. They use Afterpay, Klarna, Tabby.
If your checkout does not have Buy Now Pay Later in 4 payments, your cart abandon will be 70 percent plus.
Shopify has it built in. Just turn it on. We saw conversion jump 22 percent just by adding Afterpay button under Add to Cart.
5. Community Over Customer Service
GenZ does not want to email support at example dot com. They want to DM you.
Brands winning right now have a Discord or a close friends list on Instagram. They drop products there first. They ask should we launch in blue or pink. GenZ feels like co owner.
Start simple. Make a broadcast channel on Instagram. Name it Inner Circle. Give early access, behind the scenes, polls. That one channel will give you more repeat buyers than any email flow.
Final Truth
GenZ is not anti brand. They are anti boring, anti fake, anti pushy.
If you make them feel part of it, not just a buyer, they will market your product for free.
They do not want to buy from you. They want to buy with you.
